TRY OUT THESE THREE COOL HAIRDOS THIS MONTH TO BE YOUR GLAMOROUS BEST

No look is complete if your hair game isn’t on point. And when it’s the big festive-wedding season, you can’t afford to not usher in the fun times in style. Everyone has one signature style— be it a ponytail look, a top knot, or just leaving the hair open. We share three quick, easy-to-do hairstyles, which will help you get ready in a jiffy because this period also means there are hundreds of errands to run and chores to finish!

THE SOCK BUN

img img

With any desi outfit, you can’t go wrong with a bun. A simple bun is the easiest to wear, it keeps your hair out of way, and it can be decorated with fresh flowers to go with your sarees too. But a sock bun makes your hair look thicker, and gives a unique look to your bun too. Take any old sock, pick a bigger sock if you have long hair. For shorter hair, you can even do with kiddie socks. Now cut the closed end of the sock and roll it up to create a doughnut. Make a ponytail, which is not too high, and run the length of your pony hair through the doughnut hole and rest it against your scalp. Now wrap your hair around this doughnut and pin it in place. You can either wear a strand of mogra around the bun or add a small bejeweled accessory in the centre. Finish by using Livon on your hair to dive away any flyaways and make the look smooth.

HALO BRAID BUN

img

Crafting a cutesy halo braided bun starts with a medium-sized section of your hair from the side and goes around till you reach the back of your head, braiding your hair all the while. Secure it with a hairpin at the back of your head. Redo the same step again with a section of your hair from the other side and pin it behind the first section and, you are ready!

THE TEASED PONY

How many times have you been looking forward to a date night only to be bogged down by a workday gone late? Worry not, your work wardrobe can also be as fun and date-worthy as Park Min-young in Her Private life. A museum curator in the show, Min-young dresses in fun pantsuits (her all pink one is perfect for perfect for a date) and coordinates to show that a boss lady can be a fun dresser too. Solid coloured coordinates dominated her looks on the show, with an an occasional plaid sneaked in for visual interest.

THE THREESOME

img

For this cool-girl look, it’s best to work on second-day hair. It works for long as well as short hairstyles. Create a middle part and French braid or Dutch braid each (or multiple) section, till you reach just the top, and then knot the ends into two buns. You can even braid a colourful thin ribbon through your hair to add some colour. Use Livon Shake and Spray Serum to smoothen your hair and get a shiny, polished look.

THE HOTTEST MAKEUP LOOKS TO TRY OUT THIS WEDDING SEASON

Whether you step out with your mask or stay indoors, the makeup looks since 2020 have focused on the eyes. Be it experimenting with neon colours, glitter or eye pigments, eye makeup is ruling the makeup world now. While the options to try are many, we pick a few of our favourite recent red carpet sightings for your to try this month.

COLOUR CONTOUR

img img

Tennis star Naomi Osaka surprised the fashion world with her red carpet look this year, which was inspired by her Japanese-Haitian heritage. The tennis star’s look is about playing with the reds. Start with your preferred foundation-concealer-powder combination. Apply a few coats of mascara and pick a red lip colour that suits your skin tone, and apply without exaggerating your lips too much. Next, gently define the corners of your lids with a neutral, barely-there brown and smudge it gently with a fluffy brush, you can also top your red shadow on this. You can go with a red or a matte peachy blush up to your temples to give your face structure (apply in a ‘C’ form). For an evening out you can pair this look with a monotone outfit because between the blush and red lips, there’s a lot of colour on the face. Dab a shimmering silver shadow with your fingertips in the centre of the lid.

STICKER FUN

For this look, go to your nearest craft store and pick stick-on pearls. Pearl bindis will do too. To get musician Grimes’ look, start by applying holographic chunky glitter on your lids and finish with a bold, black-winged eye. You can ease the look for your daily outing by applying pearls just to the corners of your eye and doing a softer winged liner.

NEON SMOKY

Internet star Emma Chamberlain’s neon twist to a smoky eye is a stroke of genius. It will give your outfit just the right dash of colour and glam. For this look, do your regular smoky eye using a black or brown eye shadow. Apply kohl in and around the eyes generously and blend it with a brown eyeshadow to make it softer. Apply a generous amount of mascara to open up the eyes. Brush up your brows. Take a coloured gel or liquid eyeliner and apply it just at the centre of the eyelids. Add a little bit around the inner corners, if you think you can carry it off. You can use mint and neon greens, sky blue, teal, lavender, pinks, and white liners for this look. Keep your lips nude or soft pink..

SUNNY SIDE UP

SOAK IN THE SUN FOR SOME VITAMIN D AND BETTER SKIN AND HAIR

The outbreak of the pandemic forced people from all walks of life to stay at home, with many continuing to do so for the safety of society. While skipping your office and college commute seemed fun for a while, staying at home all the time has its repercussions. After a year of staying indoors, many people are now reporting low levels of vitamin D, which affects several of our bodily functions and it balances systems in our body. Vitamin D, the levels of which can be maintained by just 15 minutes of sun exposure at least thrice a week, actually acts as a hormone. Not only does the lack of it result in low moods, it affects our hair and skin adversely too.

img

Because Vitamin D also regulates genes and cell growth (in addition to keeping your immunity up in these times), it also affects the quality of your hair growth. Vitamin D is formed underneath our skin when exposed to sunlight rich in UVB, so staying indoors plus thick pollution means you can develop a deficiency when you have been staying in for long. Frequent allergies, infections, muscle weakness, inflammation in the body, joint and bone pain, hair loss, dry skin, fractures, depression, irritability, slow wound healing, lethargy, and insufficient sleep are commonly seen in people with low Vitamin D.

TRY OUT THESE ETHNIC FASHION TRENDS FOR FAB WEDDING STYLING

There's a nip in the air along with the invigorating aromas of home-cooked treats adding to the festive-wedding atmosphere. As the year comes close to its end, this time also brings in the wedding season. A common theme seen across different designer collections this year at fashion weeks is that clothes are more easy-to-wear and style for smaller gatherings thanks to the pandemic. Festive and wedding fashion this year is looking light and easy. Light festive wear need not be boring as you can play around with prints and colour contrasts for a head-turning look. You cannot go wrong with classic silhouettes, accessorized with just statement earrings or a neckpiece.

img

Some trends to try include colour blocking— not just solid coloured separates, but you can also do a print clash in bold colours. If you don’t wish to spend on something new, wear a printed or an embroidered crop top with a wrap skirt (instead of a typical lehenga) or palazzo pants in a solid colour. Repeating the same print for your top and bottom, either in the same or contrasting colour is great for the festive season too. If you wish to stand out, you could also get inspired by the trends seen at the international fashion weeks, such as exaggerated shoulders with tapered waists, which can retrofit to the festive or wedding context. Here’s our list of must-try style tips and trends for the season.
